Local Boy Headed For UFC Rio

The latest addition to UFC 134 Rio is the welterweight match-up between Paulo Thiago and David Mitchell.

Thiago is riding a string of losses to Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann. Thiago who is now 13-3 burst onto the scene winning three of his first four fights before succumbing to his last two losses.

David Mitchell is fighting right here out of Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance in Santa Rosa, California. Mitchell is 11-1 as a fighter and suffered his first career loss to TJ Waldburger in his last bout. Mitchell must win this fight if he wishes to stay in the UFC. It is rare to see a first time UFC fighter lose after two straight losses.

Mitchell has nine wins coming by way of submission and the remaining two via decision. This comes as no surprise since he calls Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance his home. The head trainer there, goes by the way of Dave Mitchell, a former UFC fighter who by way of injury found his way to the corner of others. The Piner Road establishment houses great jiu jitsu technicians. Fighters who have come by way of Nor-Cal have been Jake Shields, Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, and Cesar Gracie.

Look for a ground war on August 27th between the two.
