Jose Aldo Battling Infection During UFC 129

Those close to Jose Aldo say that he was battling a toe infection on the night of UFC 129.

Jose Aldo fought a tough five round war against the challenger Mark Hominick in which he retained his title against 55,000 screaming fans in opposition for 25 minutes. After a decision win, Jose Aldo had been criticized because of his lackluster performance. Facing his toughest test to date, it was seen that this would establish Aldo's stance as one of the best pound for pound fighter fighter of all time. But an extremely sluggish and slow final round where Aldo spent most of the time on his back, receiving a barrage of punches.

The coaches of the Brazilian have recently come forward and released information that Aldo was battling an infection the fight of the evening:

"(Aldo) suffered a cut in one of his toes a week before the fight and got it infected with a bacteria. He was taking a dose of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory for three days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the fight so he’d not need to take anything else close to Saturday. I can’t say with 100% certainty that it affected his performance because I’m not a doctor. I give Hominick a lot more credit for enduring the fight than the fact that Aldo took these medications"
