SUPER FIGHTS

The recent acquisition of Strikeforce under the Zuffa banner has begun to see its positive and negatives already. One of the positives are the super fights to come. No longer will people banter back and forth about who the best p4p fighters are in their respective weight divisions. The UFC will soon have the ability to put cross-organization trash talking to rest. Some super fights I would like to see are as follows:

1) King Mo V Rampage
King Mo has always been to known to be flamboyant and one to express himself freely. In fact, he ran his mouth all the way to winning and then subsequently losing the light heavyweight title in his first title defense. Lawal has been openly honest about the former Pride and Light Heavyweight champion, Jackson; calling him out on several occasions and going so far as to call him 'a pussy' for not accepting the challenge. The facts are, Rampage is a better fighter, in all aspects. But, if Lawal trains hard and Rampage slacks, then Jackson may find himself on the losing end. Hey, anything can happen.

2) Antonio Silva V Brock Lesnar
This would be an awesome match-up in three years when Strikeforce's contract expires with Showtime and CBS. Brock is at early stage in his career still. He may have some impressive wins, but he lacks a well rounded game. Come three years time, he will have an assumable 5-6 fights under his belt and with Silva's most recent performance over the once great Fedor, the two will guarantee to be a great heavyweight bout. The fight be the fastest to appear as Slivas had made a statement about how he wished to end Lesnar's MMA career and send him packing back to the WWE.

3) Gilbert Melendez V (Insert UFC LW Champ)
The UFC has the best lightweight division in the world, there's no second guessing that fact. The problem is, in my opinion, Melendez is the best lightweight in the world followed by Eddie Alvarez then Frankie Edgar. Melendez is on a whole other level from Edgar. Melendez comes under the toolage of the Gracie's in the Bay Area of California. Edgar is a highly decorated wrestler with a long list of credentials but the experience of fighting overseas has given Melendez a solidification as my top spot because of his vast range of mixed martial artists.

4) Nick Diaz V Georges St. Pierre
The two welterwight champs have much similar styles. Both little punchers, meaning no big bombs to end the fight; they both pepper opponents at a rapid pace. They both also have outstanding ground games, with Diaz coming from the same camp as Melendez, Shields, and many others in San Francisco under the Gracie's; and St. Pierre's prestigious wrestling background. This would be a five round war of attrition as well. St. Pierre has had several decision victories in his last few bouts and the Diaz brothers are notorious for being avid participants in triathlons.

5) Ronaldo Souza V Chael Sonnen
Two tough, resilient fighters. Souza's current destruction of Robbie Lawler lasted three rounds and displayed his aggressive ground game of BJJ. Sonnen's most recent bout against Anderson Silva almost ended in victory for the collegiate wrestler (although his positive results due to the PED's would have overturned the decision). He has proved even he can hang with the best Brazil has to offer currently.

6) "The Reem" V Cain Valasquez
This will resolve the pound for pound heavyweight argument once and for all. Two excellent kickboxers, Alistair Overeem the K1 Heavyweight and Grand Prix Champion as well the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion has proved he is arguable the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Valasquez trains under Javier Mendez at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, CA. The same man who grew up training and then coaching the great BJJ blackbelt, BJ Penn. To throw the icing on the cake, Cain was also an All-American NCAA Division 1 wrestler. Overeem's ground game is still mysterious as it has been virtually non-existent in recent years. Valasquez could have what it takes to win.

Others that would be not be super fights but still fun match-ups.

7) Josh Barnett V Roy Nelson

8) Robbie Lawler V Wanderlei Silva OR Chris Leben

9) Tim Kennedy V Michael Bisping

10) Fabricio Werdum V Junior Dos Santos
