TWO WEEK NOTICE NOT ALWAYS BAD

Two week notices are not always a bad thing. Just let Chris Weidman tell you that, after left the Octagon with his hand raised this evening in Lousiville, Kentucky at UFC Live: Sanchez V Kampmann.

The first round was all in the stand-up deartment as Alessio Sakara displayed his great combinations throwing at the head, body, and legs. Weidman had not much a defense other than to throw his hands up in protection. Early in the round though, a small cut opened above the right eye of Sakara.

As the second round opened, it only took seconds for the American Top Team fighter to take Sakara down. For three minutes Weidman through down a mean ground and pound from the top landing huge shots to the head, focusing on the cut already there. After a flurry Weidman switched to elbows that had Sakara rushing to get back up. He succeeded only momentarily before being taken down again.

With two minutes left the referee stepped in and had the doctor check the cut, but not before Sakara grabbed the shirt of Chris Davenport, the referee, and wiped his bloody face, and bounced back and forth showing he was ready and no doctor was needed.

Into the third round Sakara landed a few combinations that gave way for a takedown for middleweight contender, Weidman. With the Matt Serra prodigy keeping Sakara in his half-guard for the third round, he was able to ground and pound his way to a unanimous decisions in a 30-27 result from the judges across the board.

Weidman walked away with his hand raised was a feat in itself as he came in on two weeks notice and was fighting in his UFC debut.
